De-Clutter Your Nightstand

Do you have a corner of your house with home decor magazines stacked high? And you can't bear to throw them out because they are stuffed with great ideas that you want to be able to access in the future?

Yep...I did too.

Until I decided to channel my 12-year-old self and make a collage of sorts. I grabbed a normal college-ruled spiral notebook and got to work cutting and taping and labeling.
My little collage notebook isn't beautiful--a lot of the images are cut out crooked or torn from me thinking I could rip them from the magazine....
Some of the writing on the labels are smudged because I was using one of those really inky pens (I hate those pens)....
But all my BHG images (there are a few Pottery Barn catalog images mixed in too) fit into one notebook now, instead of twenty different magazines.
And now I have a photo of every decorating idea I've ever loved from BHG at my fingertips for when we get a real house, and I am not carting around my {very loved} magazines from apartment to apartment while hubbs goes to grad school.

I think it's a little brilliant. :)

I put together a 3-ring binder with all my favorites. It does make a difference, instead of carting around 50 lbs of magazines, you have one binder!

I have many of the same articles and pictures tagged to (eventually) put into an idea book! Great minds think alike!

I love your idea!!! I have been recently thinking about throwing away all my magazines just cause they are everywhere. Thanks for finally motivating me ;)

this is a fantastic idea! I've been getting SELF magazine for a few years now and i love it! it has great recipes, work out ideas and tips for a happier, healthier life. i should start a binder with my favorites, instead of keeping around so many of the whole magazines!

Guilty as charged. My mom found a 12 year old magazine, but I'd just made a project from it 2 months prior, and my daughter an I found one from the month and year she was born. She's almost 16. Maybe I should try this...

How did you know I'm trying to declutter my paper clutter pile beside my computer desk? When I go in my bedroom for the evening, I try to weed through that paper clutter. What a great idea! If you don't want to tear the page out of your magazines, make a copy of that page and use repositional scrapbooking adhesive to stick your saved pages down in your notebook. Like the way you labeled what appeals to you in each page..One can also use a 3 ring binder and put the saved pages on plain computer paper and then into plastic sleeve protectors. You can then remove the pages without any trouble if you decide later, you didn't really like that idea. you can buy the repositional scrapbooking adhesive at craft stores like Michaels or A.C. Moore for about $6.99..has a lot of uses besides scrapbooking. I find when I use a 3 ring notebook, I can slip the contents information inside the spine of the notebook, under the clear plastic covering. Buy the cheap white 3 ring binders, where you can slip a cover page on front of notebook, under the clear plastic sleeve. Hope this is self explanatory and wished I had better computer skills so I could post pictures to demonstrate.
