Well, I finally decided what to do with the tray I found a few weeks back. :) And I'm fairly happy with the results. I love the color I chose, and I think my design turned out cool, but the contact paper didn't work quite as well as I had hoped. :( Other than that, it's pretty awesome. :)
Okay, so onto the tutorial/pics.
First of all, I bought a roll of contact paper (which cost me a pretty penny!) and some spray paint. I've never done a project with spray paint before, and let me tell you--it was SO much easier than brush painting! :) Took a FRACTION of the time, and it looks more even!
I sanded down my tray, just so the paint would stick extra-well.
At first I tried doing a flowery pattern like THIS one over at Oh So Crafty, but it just wasn't looking good....so I decided the free-hand drawing just wasn't going to work and started stenciling on a pattern instead.
After I was done stenciling, I cut my circles out:
And then I placed them where I wanted them:
Took it outside and sprayed away...
I did about 4 coats, let it dry for a few hours, then took off the contact paper.
Voila!!!!! All done. :)
What do you think? I'm going to place it on a shelf with other jars and stuff kind of like That's So Cuegly in this post HERE.
Now get to your nearest thrift store and find yourself a sweet tray to re-do!

Love it. Will you just do all my crafts for me? You do a great job! I really have a gazillion crafts to do and between a baby and school, no time...so for now...I live to see others craft! :)Love the color too...that is going be the accent in my master bedroom at my new house. :)
How creative! I would have never thought to do something like that. Amazing! Thanks for putting more than one post per page. ;)
That's great looking! I love trays so I'm definitely going to have to try this project and I agree about preferring spray. It can be messier but sometimes it's so worth it for larger projects!
Absolutly wonderful!
This is so stinkin' CUTE!! I might take on this project for our place!
Your tray is beautiful, I love the circle pattern!
