So I've been really busy with projects of all sorts lately....and I obviously can't post them all at once...so today I thought I'd show you how our bedroom decorations are coming along in our new apartment. But keep checking back because soon I'm going to post my entertainment center do-over. :) It's pretty great!!! I'm so excited to share it with you.
So...first I bought some vinyl lettering. 50% off at Hobby Lobby! This is above my dresser. :)
I thought it turned out pretty dang cute. I'd never worked with vinyl lettering before, and it was kind of tough to get it to come off of the backing it's on and get it to stick just right to the wall...but after a while, I got it (with the help of Wes, my trusty assistant/husband. :))
I had originally bought the lettering for over our headboard, but it was a lot smaller than I had anticipated, which is why we ended up doing it over the dresser. So I had to think of something else to put above the bed. I had been wanting to try this idea for awhile, so that's what I decided to do after running across this awesome find at the DI on Saturday night:
Perfectly shaped wood squares! I had been looking everywhere for these! And you'll die when you see what I paid:
Yep, that's right, $1.00 each!!!!! I swear, Saturday is the time to go! I found so much cool stuff that night--I think it must be because people clean out their closets, etc on Saturdays and all the stuff gets put out at the DI on Saturday nights....or else, maybe it was just a coincidence. (For those of you who don't know what the DI is, it stands for Deseret Industries and it's a second-hand store.)
So today at Hobby Lobby, I went to the clearance fabric section and found some cute fabric to match our bedroom, and I proceeded to create these:
I'm gonna teach you how to do it. If you've been following my blog, I'm sure you remember this post from awhile ago on making a jewelery holder. It's the same basic concept. The great thing about this idea is that it's such a versatile project. You could cover it in baby fabric and put it above a crib, or Christmas fabric and hang it on your wall for the holidays, etc.
You will need a staple gun, fabric, the wood squares (you can also use canvas squares if that's easier for you), as well as scissors and an ironing board/iron.
Iron your fabric (if needed). You don't want any creases. :) I used a spray bottle to dampen the cloth and make it easier to iron.
Now lay your wood square on your fabric and cut it so you have plenty of fabric to staple over.
Now fold the fabric over the sides and staple away!
As always, the key is to pull tight!
Now cut off any excess fabric. This will help it be able to lay flat when you hang it on the wall.
Once you cut down the fabric, it should look like this on the back:
You should have no wrinkles or bubbles on the front. It should be tight as a drum. :)
And you're done! This project took me about 15 minutes from start to finish.
Notice the red background...that's a sneak-peak for tomorrow's entertainment center post. :)
Here they are on the wall above our bed. :)
Aren't they purty? :) Also, notice how cute my jewelry holder looks....click here to see the post on how to make it.
Let me know if you have any questions. :)
Good Luck Stapling!

I made a purse out of that brown fabric and I love it. :D awesome idea btw
Making the pattern artwork out of fabric and frames is on my to-do list for one of our rooms! I have seen it floating around on blogs and just love the idea. Yours came out really nicely! I'll be sure to feature it on my blog once I get around to that!
